I hope you enjoyed your stay, and come back again sometime. I'll have to take you on a tour of the rest of the house. :-PMy Fish Room
Welcome to my fish room. Here you will find my many different Bettas, both male and female, ST and DT, solid color and patterned. Maybe even a few fry and juveniles, too. Come on in, and see my setup.
My ultimate goal is to have a setup in which all of my adult Bettas are in seperate compartments, but filtered by one system. For now, I'll have to settle for my weekly cleaning of the jars ritual. Maybe I'll win the lottery someday...
Of course, I also have my culture tanks going, to feed my Bettas. In the two 2-gallon tanks contain daphnia (the green water tank) and tubifex/black worms, scuds (gammarus shrimp), and aquatic ispopods in the dirty water tank. Both are aerated and vitamins and minerals are added to make the live food healthier for the fish.
I also have different cultures for the fry. Two containers of microworms are kept going at all times. A larger container of whiteworms is kept going also. I also keep a can of decapsulated brine shrimp, as I FINALLY got my fries to start eating it. By the time they finish the can, it'll be the year 3000! LOL!
I keep these cultures underneath my fry tanks, which makes it look cluttered. But hey, at least I know where everything is... :)
Right next to one of the fry tanks is a culture jar with green water in it. Sometimes I put daphnia in it, but right now I have some fairy shrimp in it. They seem to like it in there, so I left them there. I got the fairy shrimp as eggs with my Triops kit.
What's a Triops? I'm glad you asked. I didn't know what it was either. Also called a tadpole shrimp, it looks mostly like a horseshoe crab. They are little freshwater shrimp that live in dry areas in mud puddles or where water gathers during a storm. The little Triops lives from a month to two months in these puddles. Then they reproduce and leave their eggs in the dried-up ground...only to hatch with the next storm. I find them interesting. Here's a few shots of mine during some antics. Don't look at the underside unless you have a strong stomach. :-P
I keep my little Triops in a half gallon jar in one of my fry tanks, since they like water between 75-85 degrees F.
Then, I have my three dogs, cat, fox (real cute), other Bettas, and lizard in the rest of the house wreaking havoc. But that's another story in itself.
